Close to the city center.
It was not in such a marvelous area of the city, too far away from downtown. Now we went by car but we'd like to go walking.

Big room
You'll need a car there, the neighbourhood is a bit dodgy (but not dangerous per se).

We stayed here for the Memphis, St. Jude Marathon and the location was close to the start/finish lines. Not walking distance, but a short drive to our destination, as well as other tourist destinations in the city.
The $15/day pet charge was a little much. I have a 6 pound Shih-tzu who was in a crate the whole time we were not in our hotel room, so the chances of any damage were minimal. I felt this was too expensive of a fee.

We liked the huge room and the inclusion of fridge, microwave and coffee maker. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Printing bus timetables and even offering to drive us to the supermarket. They did our on line cheking in and printed the boarding passes. The breakfast was good.

The room was huge; much bigger than rooms you rent for the same price at big "chain" hotels. Also, we arrived 4 hours prior to check in and still, we were accomodated at no extra cost.
Lobby was a little seedy. Staff were very helpful and considerate though.

I could use wireless internet. Though I missed breakfast, they served breakfast for me after the scheduled time. After checking out, they drove me to my destination.
The hotel was a little bit far from downtown.

Apart from the real city center hotels the Rodeway Inn is the nearest one to Beale street. You still need a car to get there. The hotel is basic, but has very large rooms with everything you would need for a short stay. The hotel is very well maintained, perfectly clean and the reception was very friendly. The value for money is exceptionally good. (Note for redaction of website only...This opinion replaces my previous one, that did not fully came through obviously)

We were on a roadtrip and came to Memphis primarily for Sun Studios and Graceland. We chose the Rodeway as it was 2 miles from Beale St, about 1 mile from Sun Studios, and about 6miles from Graceland. We ended up choosing it for the low price too. When we arrived we were a little weary as it seemed to be on a back road in a very urban area, next to a school. But when we went inside, the room was huge and was just perfect! They were very well kitted out rooms with fridge, microwave, flat screen tv, etc. Being on a side/back street was a good thing as we got a peaceful night's sleep which we may not have got on the main road a block away.
We were initially disappointed with the location, as we weren't near any restaurants or shops, but since we were driving it didn't matter in the end.
